not sleeping

For the past month Eric has not been sleeping well. Last night I had a flash back to when he was a newborn. Yikes! He woke up 3 times.
It's been a little frustrating. I'm not sure what it could be.
Also he doesn't like taking naps. He rarely takes naps that are longer than 30 minutes during the day and usually he takes 2. One in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. Maybe that's normal but I wish they could be a little longer.

I some times wonder if I am doing something wrong. I thought I could teach him to take naps and to sleep through the night too.
Also, he has been rolling over in his crib. That's not a good thing. A few times I have seen him on his stomach with his leg caught between the crib slats. And then of course I have to rescue him.

Today I have is his 6 month checkup and I'm not looking forward to it. I know it's necessary but it's hard to handle the crying. And I don't care for the pediatrician. I hope that soon we are able to find a better one. (Maybe after we move. ) Unfortunately, we have a state health insurance program and it's a pain to change doctors.

been busy

I think most of you know that my little family needs to move to a bigger place. It is becoming necessary that Eric have his own bedroom and a place to crawl and that David has his own office. I recall that once or twice I have talked about it on here. :-)

So David and I are planning on taking a trip to WA and ID to look at some potential places to live. We have both called several places (apartments) and were able to find out some information about them. There are quite a few that sound really good and the best part is that they are affordable. We have been praying about moving and we believe that the Lord is leading us.

I have had a small amount of time to call during the week because I have been watching Eric. He is rolling all over the place in the living room and I have realized that he could hurt himself one of these days if I don't watch him closely.

I have to go. I hear a little boy who is fussing. I think he is hungry for sweet potatoes. That is his new favorite food.

mmmmmm applesauce

Today I tried giving Eric applesauce. It was a hit. He liked it. Much better than the blah icky rice cereal and the oatmeal.
He pushed it out a few times with his tongue when I put the spoon in his mouth but after a few times he did eat it and actually seemed to enjoy it. He took several bites.
It was fun to see his reaction to the new food. It's much different than drinking from a bottle.

I bought some other types of food too. In the next few days, I'll try feeding him some bananas, squash and sweet potatoes. I'm curious to see how he likes the rest of these foods. This is exciting. Pretty soon he will get to eat at the dinner table with David and I.

playing

Today I have discovered that Eric likes to rip up magazines. It was fun to watch him tear up the pages and crinkle them in with his hands. He seemed to be fascinated with it.

Kleenex and Robitussin to the rescue

It all started last weekend. I stared getting a sore throat and then it progressed to a stuffy nose and the on going cough that I usually get. A few days later, Eric and David started getting it too. We are all sharing the same cold. I think the worst part has been at night. Since Eric has had this cold he has been having a lot of trouble settling down at night. He has been extremely fussy and doesn't want to soothe himself to sleep. That has been difficult for David and I.
For the past month he has been not sleeping through the night anymore. He hasn't been sleeping the nice long 8-9 hours at a time. I am pretty sure that it is because he is teething though.
During the day, he seems to be cheerful and happy even though he has been coughing and his poor little nose sounds plugged up. I've been giving him some infant Tylenol for cold and cough (pediatrician's advice) and making sure he gets plenty of food/liquids and enough rest (even though he doesn't seem to want to sleep much these days).

So I've been staying in doors lately. Except for yesterday afternoon when my sister-in-law and I took Eric to the zoo. I will have to go back and take pictures. I didn't bring my camera because our trip was pretty spontaneous and I didn't even think about it until later. We ended up getting there an hour before they closed and they let us in for free.

I must get going for now. Eric is hungry. The good thing is that he has an appetite. I would really worry if he didn't want to eat.

Look what he can do

Eric can grab his feet and toes and put them in his mouth. Yummy!
Yesterday, he rolled all the way over. About a month ago, he only rolled one way (back to stomach) but yesterday he started out on his back and rolled onto his stomach and then onto his back again. He has been rolling over a lot lately and when he is on his stomach, he pushes up on his knees so that his stomach is off the floor a little bit. His torso muscles are getting stronger and stronger. I am pretty sure that he will be actually moving forward soon and getting into things. I guess David and me had better watch out.
